For Pod's Sake: Why Your Liquid Tastes Burnt (And How to Fix It)
We hear it all the time from customers coming into the shop: "Why does my juice taste burnt?"
It’s a big issue despite how cheap vape pods are; it ruins your liquid, and quite frankly, it’s a waste of money. While it’s easy to blame a dodgy pod, more often than not it boils down to (pun absolutely intended) a couple of simple mistakes.
If you're sick of burning through your pods, here is the honest truth on why your pods are dying and how to make them last.
1. You're Rushing the First Fill
We get it, you’ve just bought a new flavour and you want to vape it immediately. But if you fill a brand-new pod and take a draw straight away, you’re pretty much frying dry cotton. Once that wick gets even slightly scorched, that nasty burnt taste is locked in for good. There's absolutely nothing you can do. You can't vape it out!
The Fix: Patience! Pull the stopper, fill it up, and then put it down. Let it sit upright for at least 5 minutes before you touch it. Let that cotton soak in your vape liquid properly.
2. You're Vaping on Empty
Running your pod until it’s bone dry is an absolutely foolproof way to kill your pod (or coil). If the liquid level drops below the visible wicking holes on the side of the pod, the cotton is pulling in air instead of juice. You hit that button, and boom—burnt cotton. Remember what we said about not being able to salvage the pod.
Ask yourself this: Can you un-burn food?
Don't wait for the low-fluid warning from your tastebuds. Use your eyes, keep the tank topped up before it hits the danger zone.
3. The Reality Check: Pods Don't Last Weeks
Let’s clear up a massive myth: pods and coils do not last for weeks on end. They are consumable items.
Depending on how heavily you vape and how sweet your e-liquid is, a standard pod is usually good for about 4 to 7 days of peak performance before the flavour drops off and it needs swapping out. Expecting a single pod to run perfectly for a month is just going to lead to disappointment, wasted liquid, and a bad taste in your mouth - figuratively, and quite literally!
Another clue that your pod or coil is on its way out is to look at the cotton. If it's gone from pristine white to even a light shade of brown, then it's time to replace!
Make sure you have the right ratio (50/50 or 70/30) for your type of device and nicotine level - see our blog on liquid ratios here.
